Srinivasav was a civil Engineer by qualification and was working in the services of Tamilnadu Government and was closely associated with the Veeranam project which was meant to bring drinking water to Chennai.
He later was taking up private contract work.He died at Ooty and was cremated at Srirangam.

270. Viji Srinivasan (Rangaswami V.K. , Krishnama Chari V.T. , Thiruvengata Chari .S. , Srinivasa Iyengar.T(Tiru) , Thiruvenkatatha Iyengar S. , Satagopa Iyengar ) was born on 27 Mar 1938 in Madras. She died on 13 Jun 2005 in Bhopal.

Viji Srinivasan is a renowned Social Worker in India, primarily involved in active field work relating to the Advancement of Women.

From the age of twentyfour to the age of thirty, i.e. from 1962 to 1968 she was a Community and Women's Development Worker with Swallows, of Sweden and Denmark, located primarily in Madras. From 1968 to 1972 she was on the teaching staff of Stella Maris College, Madras, instructing M.A. Social Work students; she also developed fieldwork experience for Nava Nirmana Social Institute students. The next four years, 1972 to 1976, were spent as an Executive Officer of the New Residents Welfare Trust, Madras, developing a comprehensive women's programme for the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board. From 1976 to 1979 she was Editor for Women's Development and for Social Sciences with the well-known publishers, Macmillan's, at Madras. In 1979-1980 she was a Consultant to UNICEF. From 1980 to 1986 she was the Women's Programme Officer at the Ford Foundation, New Delhi, where she developed dairying, sericulture, and agriculture programmes for women; she also worked on the problem of the overall integration of women into the Indian economy, helping in the development of the STEP programme of the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India , and working with a variety of women's organisations including Sewa and the Annapurna Mahila Mandal. In the years 1986 to 1988 she was the Oxfam America Representative for India and Bangladesh.

She became, in 1988, the Managing Director of ADITHI, an NGO, in Bihar, where she has been ever since, for the last fourteen years. ADITHI is working with over 50,000 rural women and girl children in 5 districts of Bihar - Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, Patna, and Dumka. The sectors of interest have been Sharecropping, Agriculture, Traditional Handicrafts, Traditional Fisherwomen, Tribal Women and Forestry, Adolescent Girls, Girl Children, etc.

Her Educational Qualifications include an M.A. in Ancient Indian History and Sociology of the University of Calcutta (1964), a Diploma in Social and Cultural Anthropology of the University of Madras (1970), Training in Community Development and Extension Work at the Institute of Education of the University of London (1970), and a Cerificate in Mass Communications from Bhavan's Institute, Madras.

She has written six books - "Women's Work Experiences", "Indian Women", "A Blue Revolution", "Female Infanticide", "If Indian Men Wish", and "Newer Horizons", besides several published articles.
THE WEEK published from India has in thier issue dated 19th Dec`04 has highlighted the great work done by Smt Viji Srinivasan with her photograph on the cover.
